Today we got put into groups I am with Judd, Teesh and Kaesy. On a large piece of paper we had to write down all the information we already knew about networks, within our group we didnt know that much but we did know some of the basic things like e.g for a computer network you have a number of different computers that connected together and can share data and information etc: 5/09/2008
In our groups today we looked through the tasks on the wiki that we have to complete, but first of we had to make our own page for our group on the wiki. Then before we started researching about networks we had to complete a know, what, learn (KWL) about networks one of the main things i new to learn about networks is the terminology the langue of it. 9/09/2008
Today I completed more of the network questions from the wiki I just got all my information from the text book today, I learnt what a NIC is a network interface card and what they are used for. I also finished doing that addvantagers of using a network, because I just got my information from the internet and when I read the text book I added and changed the informatin a bit, I am now looking at physical transmission media and reading about the different cables. 11/09/2008
Today we watched a video of networking and how they work on the internet by sorting all the information and data through one computer to another first packaging on your PC and traveling through the LAN and through the WAN to get to where it is asigned to be, I found the vidoe very usful and informative. I also completed more question on the networking stuff. 16/09/2008
Today I worked on more of the network questions, I learnt what all the data transmission terms mean like baseband can only transmit one signal through the channel at a time where broadband can transmit multiple signal at one time. In the text book I could not find what a simplex and a half-duplex were so with the help of eddie I looked up the meanings of the terms on a online internet dictionary to do with computer terms, which gave me a good definition that I was able to understand. 18/09/2008 Today we got to watch Irobot but we had to watch it through the eyes of an I.T student so seing the different networks they would of used in the technology of the movie, like each robot would of had a mini network within it's self connecting all its movement and voice actions together, also a larger network would of connected all the robots together like how they all abbey the rules of not hurming humans for example. 7/10/2008 Today I finished the rest of the questions for task two so my group has now completed task two which is good and now starting on task three I think we are a bit behind its harder because teesh is never here so we have to do more work and I'm having trouble understanding everything about networks so I'll have to go though everything and try to get a better understanding in my own words. 9/10/2008 Today in a group we came up with some questions about networking to ask Rob, but before he helped us answer them Rob gave us a tour around the networking involved in our school, I found it really interesting and informative I had know idea how much was put into setting up the school network I thought the school would of only had one server but we have around 12 which was surprising. It all seemed so confussing everything in the server room way to complicated for me, the tour was really useful I got to see how a real network was setup and when Rob help answer the questions I learnt more things that I wasn't awear of, like the pathway for a printjob I didn't know that it went to the first server then to the central server then to the printer, it was also interesting to know that our school does not have a hub only switches which I didn't know this session will really help towards completing the sac. 10/10/2008
Today we were getting more ready for the sac coming up we finished answering task three questions and talked about the different things we needed to learn or improve on to be able to complete the sac. 14/10/2008 Today we started the practise sac to help us understand how the real sac was going to be and the different tasks that would be involved, we got together with as a group and went through the parctise sac and looked at the different things we needed to know like representing data flow, I also went back through the text book and read over the secturity part so I would know the different secturity involed in a network which you have to know for the sac and I'm thinking I might struggle with. I'm not sure how I will go on the sac it will be hard to remember everything about networking but I'll try and look over everything before Thursday. 16/10/2008
Today we where going to start that sac but instead we watch a play for the year 11's about dealing with stress in life while going through school and they different consequences that may matter based on your actions. I enjoyed the play thought it was good and informitive for me starting full vce next year. 17/10/2008
We started the sac today I dont know how I went but I spent a lot of the time reading over the sheet to get a good understanding of what was required for the network, because I know I dont take in the imformation every well by only reading through once I dont think I could of got as much work complete today as I would of liked but I should be able to finish everything within the three days. 21/10/2008
Second day of the sac I went over a lot of information over the weekend and finished answering the last three questions today I dont know if I have written enough but its all I can think of for now, I still have to complete the data flow diagram and animated one which I know I will have trouble with befcause I'm not good with the diagrams but I will see how I go.
